Dearborn Heights Pharmacy on the Symptoms of COVID-19
Dearborn
Heights Pharmacy notes that the symptoms of COVID-19 may be similar to the
common cold or the flu. Since all of them manifests in body aches, a fever,
cough, and chills, it may be easy to confuse your diagnosis. So, how can you
tell one from the other?
Here is some information to help clear that up.
A Newly Discovered Strain
COVID-19 is a newly discovered strain of the coronavirus. It originated from Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and continues to spread and infect people worldwide.
Four other coronavirus strains are prevalent and cause only mild symptoms such as the common cold. The COVID-19 strain, however, may cause severe illness in certain people, such as the elderly and those with existing health conditions.
Dearborn Heights Pharmacy shares that the most susceptible are those with lung disease, diabetes, and heart disease. Currently, there is no vaccine or cure for it.
The Symptoms
The COVID-19 symptoms normally include a cough, difficulty in breathing, fever, chills, aches and pains, headaches, and a sore throat. It is said that upper respiratory symptoms such as sinus congestion or a runny nose are uncommon in COVID-19.
The symptoms range from mild to severe. If you’ve recently had contact with an infected patient or have recently been in a place where the virus is active, there is a high probability that COVID-19 causes your symptoms. Otherwise, it may just be the common flu or a cold.
When to Call a Healthcare Professional
Dearborn Heights Pharmacy recommends if you suspect that you are infected, call your healthcare professional immediately. You will get a review of your symptoms and specific care guidelines.
If your case is mild, you will most likely be asked to stay at home and administer self-care to keep the infection from spreading. If you are asked to go to a medical facility, please call ahead to let them know about your condition and symptoms before you go in for an assessment.
